The holidays are often a stressful time on the wallet but it doesn’t have to be! A couple of smart switches can help lighten the load and help get you through the holiday season.
1. Decorate with Natural Elements
Not only does dried fruit add a chic touch to your gift wrapping, but the fragrance is also a pleasant and unexpected twist! Orange peels, pomegranates, and even pine cones are an excellent way to bring nature into your gift wrapping and keep things eco-friendly. Try tying a tree clipping to the name tag for a unique touch.
2. Use Alternative Options for Gift Wrap
A few wrapping alternatives are brown paper bags (time to raid your stash of Trader Joe’s bags!), recycled paper, or newspaper! It’s almost so obvious you miss it. A fun tip-have your kids draw and write on the brown paper with a marker to bring a smile to any grandparent’s face.
3. Switch to LED Holiday Lights
Holiday lights around the house and on your tree can make you cringe at your next electricity bill. Try switching to LED lights which use around 80% less energy than traditional bulbs. Talk about a light bulb going off!
4. Opt for Healthy, Planet-Friendly Candles
Beeswax or soy wax candles are also another easy switch to a more sustainable holiday. Traditional candles often burn paraffin which releases toxic fumes into the air (ew!). Plus side, a lot of soy wax-based candles use a wood wick that crackles when lit, so you get the chestnuts-roasting-on-an-open-fire holiday sound.
