When renovating or building a new home there are about a million different moving parts. With so many moving pieces it’s very easy to get overwhelmed and feel like you don’t know what you are even doing. So today I’m sharing 3 essential tips to keep in mind if you plan to build or renovate your home in the future.

Step #1: Design Your Dream Home
The first step is to design the space you want because there will be nothing to build if it’s not designed. Often, people mistake bringing a designer and a contractor in to get quotes before having any part of the home design. I suggest you loop in a designer to design the space first so that any bid from a builder or contractor will be accurate. Selections can significantly impact the cost of the build. For renovations, all you need is a designer to help you first, and for a new build, I suggest bringing an architect on board as your first step.
Step #2: Budget for Your Beautiful New Space
Have a realistic budget set aside and know that building or renovating doesn’t come cheap. Especially in the post-pandemic world as prices of building material have nearly tripled. A designer can help you establish a realistic budget for the design and style you want. Having champagne taste on a beer budget won’t get you far, so it’s important to know what the things you want cost and realizing if you can afford to go with them or not.

Step #3: Manage Your Project Throughout
Managing a project of this scale is also significantly time-consuming. One of the easiest ways to tick off your builder is to not have the building materials ready and selected when they are ready to build. A designer can definitely assist you in project managing all the moving parts.
It’s stressful but it doesn’t need to be overwhelming! Hire a professional to help guide you through the process and it will be the best thing you ever invested in.
