Project Reveal: Modern Industrial Project in Austin Texas

Our client first came to us with one requirement and one requirement only, to do “the opposite of Joanna Gaines.” NOW before you yell at me, this is not a knock to Chip and Jo or any of their designs, I admire the hell out of those two and highly respect them. However, it’s no secrete Jo has become known for the Modern Farmhouse style. It’s very popular here in Texas so being able to design in a style that was outside of our usual client calls was very exciting.
Industrial Modern was the theme for this project. With the end goal for the home to be an Air BnB rental, we knew it had to be semi-cool but not break the bank. We incorporated unique elements that may not be to everyone’s liking, which, for just a short term rental property made it the perfect plan!
The Before: A Home in Need of Help
This home has a unique history has well. Built by Homes for Humanity a few years back, it was equipped with many ADA requirements. In particular, the light switches were all placed lower than the standard height to be easily reached by a wheel chair. Changing the electrical in addition to the sloped foundation that needing fixing, this home provided some unique first time challenges for the Kozy team.
GOALS: Opposite of Joana Gaines, check. Cool and unique style, check. Doesn’t break the bank but still makes an impact, check!
The After: A Functional & Beautiful Finished Home
I never thought I’d say this, but my favorite feature of this project may actually be the toilet. We did a satin black wall mounted toilet, the Kohler Veil to be exact. First time for everything right? We felt like this was a great opportunity to use something so unique that you don’t find in any “normal” home.
