Furnishing a new place is a fun and exciting time, so fun and exciting that it’s easy to go overboard and completely blow your budget. Planning ahead of time is crucial to ensure you stick to your budgeting guidelines. Here, I detail where to splurge and where to save when it comes to redecorating.

Tip #1: Spend the Money on High-Traffic Items

High traffic, high price tag. Anything that gets used or seen daily by you or your house company is considered a splurge-worthy item in my book. Think living room sofa, dining chairs, even area rugs. You want these pieces to last you a long time so consider them an investment piece.

Tip #2: Splurge on Showstopping Details

In each room in your house, I like to incorporate one “showstopper” item. This can be as small as a table lamp or a vintage accent chair you tracked down at a flea market in Paris. Only one piece needs to have a story to tell though, so be careful not to go overboard.

Tip #3: Save on Literally Everything Else

Areas you can save…basically anything else! Throw pillows, guest room nightstands, bathroom accessories, or an entry console don’t need to cost an arm and a leg just because they can. Save in areas that don’t get much use and small accent decor pieces.

At the beginning of every Kozy project, I put together an entire project budget. I line item each and everything we’ll be purchasing for the project, from cabinet hardware down to the furniture. The total number at the end is the entire project budget, so if I stick to my own project guidelines I ensure every Kozy project doesn’t go overboard.

What is one thing you are so glad that you splurged on in your home? How does it improve your life? Share with us in the comments below.

Stay Kozy,

Kristin
